Lunalu uses an array of gemstones and jewelry findings all hand selected by the owner herself; Lauren Potts-Novotak. Lauren is always searching for the best quality at the best price. Some items commonly used are as follows:
*Gemstones – The heart and soul of Lunalu Artisan Jewelry is the gemstones!! It is often times that a piece is designed around a single stone. Some of the gemstones used in include: Jade, Turquoise, Amethyst, Amazonite, Citrine, Peridot, an array of Jaspers and Agates, Tiger Eye, Chalcedony, Labradorite, and more. Gemstones are such that each bead is different and unique so no two are the same, yet each one is beautiful.
*Swarovski Crystals – These are the best crystals available to the handmade jewelry industry. Swarovski Crystals occupy the majority of the worlds market for Crystal beads and are regarded as the highest quality machine cut and polished crystal beads in the world. Our crystals are purchased through verified Swarovksi distributors.
*Czech Fire Polished Beads: Czech glass beads are some of the absolute best glass available. Their crystals are machine-faceted, then polished by glazing inside a hot oven. This gives them their beautiful glistening colors and a soft look.
*Lampwork Beads – Made made by working molten glass rods around a wire or mandrel over an open flame. The bead is shaped, textured, and/or patterns are also added. After each beads has been designed, they are placed in a kiln to harden. All lampwork used are the fine workings of lampwork artists and not the mass produced lampwork you would find in a craft store.
*Sterling Silver – Used throughout our collection. Sterling Silver is nearly pure silver. It and contains 92.5% (.925 ) pure sterling silver alloy and is usually mixed with 7.5% copper which makes it stronger than pure silver. Sterling Silver is of the highest quality.
*Gold Filled – Gold filled is a nice alternative to solid gold. Gold filled is made by using heat and pressure to apply a layer of karat gold to a base of less costly metal. This gold layer is many times thicker than a standard plating – anywhere from 50 to 100,000 times thicker. The law, gold filled items must be at least 1/20th gold by weight.
*Bali Silver – Handcrafted and produced from .925 sterling silver in Indonesian. They are dipped in an antique solution which fills in the grooves and creates a contrast between the high and low points of the item.
*Antiqued Brass – solid brass that has been treated to be antiqued into a brown, red, or dark gold tone. By far one of our favorite materials to work with as it contrasts and compliments some of the more earthen colored stones and designs.
